Foreign Langauge

Post by 6timeboymom » Sat Jun 07, 2008 9:05 pm

Has anyone used a foreign language curriculum with their HOD? I've used a latin curriculum previously, and the boys want to go back to it, but I am not sure how I will combine it-what I'm thinking specifically is using the grammar and vocabulary and working that in, kwim? The latin curriculum I have is for K-3rd grade, btw.

I am using Rosetta Stone French along with Bigger with my girls.

They both really enjoy it, and I'm am amazed how much I have picked up too.

We are using Prima Latina with dd (7) and she has a lot of fun with it. My little one has even picked up on a few words. We just let her move along at her own pace and she is really learning a lot. She likes to show off to her Nana how well she has learned her Latin Prayers since she knows Nana had to take Latin when she was in school. As for Mommy (me) I am clueless and learning what I can as we go along - Lol! :)

that's the one we'll go back to-Prima Latina. :-)
Do you find adding foreign language adds much time to your day? Do you work on it every day, or just a few days a week?

Hoe so you like the Rosetta Stone? I am thinking of that for my (now) high schooler, but it's so blamed expensive! I might get grandma talked into buying it, though...:-)

Some libraries have Rosetta Stone, so you can try it out and see what it's like before you buy.

I really like it, my kids have learned a lot and so have I. It only takes about 20 minutes or less to do each exercise. They do it every school day.

We spend a maximum of 20min/day on Latin. Each week (sometimes every 2 weeks) we will do a new lesson from the DVD and we do a short review on all other days. It is pretty easy to fit into the daily schedule, we just don't move onto a new lesson until we have mastered the one we are working on. She works at her own pace - no pressure - and has fun with it.
