High School Level Writing

Post by faiths13 » Mon Feb 03, 2014 6:11 pm

Hi,
My two oldest are both doing Rev2Rev (7th & 9th). They are just doing what comes with the program and the 9th grader is doing the Extension Package. This is our first year using HOD I am starting to get worried that my high schooler is not doing enough writing. Should I add something else in? I haven't added anything in. As a matter of fact I haven't even started a transcript or anything. I am feeling kind of lost lol

Are you using the creative writing book with each of them by CLP that HOD uses? It is worth a 1/2 credit according to CLP's site for creative writing so I think you are in good shape for both of your students. It even recommends that if it is used in 7th/8th grade that 1/2 credit can be awarded once the student reaches high school.

I am about to start Rev2Rev with my 8th and 9th grader and having a 4 year plan for high school with everything laid out in front of me for what we need to cover and how we need to make Rev2Rev and MTMM high school credit worthy for our particular needs for credits really has made me feel more at ease about high school.

I have looked into the state requirements but have not started a transcript because I am just totally lost. To be honest I havent even been grading him. I have never really done grades for our homeschool, so i dont really even know what to do for that. I have looked into it some, but I feel pretty overwhelmed with the whole thing...

So this got me thinking, is the science with the extension package not high school credit worthy? I am really lost right now. I dont know if my son will go to college or not. He has some interest right now, but more geared towards art then any academics. I want him to be prepared to go to college if he decides to. I want him to be able to get into college if he needs to.

There is a great transcript resource even if you haven't been keeping grades on kindle. It is called Creating Transcripts for your Unique Child by Lee Binz. Link removed by board moderator per board rules.
She has a lot of great resources on kindle for transcripts and transcript help.

There is a pinned thread on the main board for beefing up for jr/sr high. It says the advanced physical science is high school credit worthy. It seems most add Chemistry 101 dvd's to MTMM for high school credit worthiness.

Hi there! :D No need to panic - many moms are doing RevtoRev (or other HOD guides like MTMM for 9th grade). :D Here is a thread that lays it all out for RevtoRev...

As far as a transcript, you've got some time. You can see course descriptions for WG in WG's Introduction online, as well as suggestions for grading here...

We are loosely following the grading of WG, and it is going well. We did not grade previous to 9th grade either (other than me correcting everything and expecting it done to an 'A' level of work at final completion  ). We are formally grading Algebra 1, science, logic, writing (just with provided rubrics), and everything else I am correcting daily and expecting "A" work. HTH! :D

Thank you so much Julie. I am like you in the grading dept - I have very high standards for their work. I expect most of it to be done to perfection. Unless it's just one of those days, lol. I read that you should not put straight A's on the transcript though, because it isn't realistic. I did see the thread for the Rev2Rev, but it is an older thread. I was hoping there would be something more current to add to it.

If you arrow down to the WG link I gave above, there are very detailed plans for assigning grades using assessments for English 1 including R & S English (you'd use whatever level you are using in RevtoRev), Lit. (you'd use DITHOR for RevtoRev), and Comp (you'd use "The Exciting World of Creative Writing" for RevtoRev) . You could pattern your grading after that. HTH! :D :D :D
