If I use HOD with my oldest I will be using 3 different levels with my children...is this doable? My kids are 4, 6 and 9...upcoming grades prek, 1st and 5th.
I am looking at doing LHTH, LHFHG and either Bigger or Preparing if I use HOD with my oldest. I don't reallly see any way to combine them. I just hope I am not taking on more than I can handle.
So tell me....is this doable or not?
Debbie

Hi Debbie! I would be like you, wanting to do them all because they all look so incredible! I am just trying to do two, but I have a 1o month old and that limits my school time a lot, because I want to really enjoy him and play with him while he is awake! So we try to do most of our reading and school while he naps. Anyway, I think I would plan to do school for the older two, using LHFHG and whichever program you decide on for your 9yo. I would probably buy LHTH anyway, and just do it when I had time, I think it is so short that you could really have fun with it on less hectic days. And you could always stretch it out....so say you only get to it 3 days a week, it would just take longer to use it and you could enjoy that for a longer time.
Of course, your littlest one will probably be really happy just tagging along with the others. My almost 6 year old does all of BIGGER with us because she just insists that she can do everything her big brother does. I do LHFHG with her in the afternoon, if we have time, which often we don't, but she is learning everything she needs to. I sort of do LHFHG with her just to have special time with her! LHTH is inexpensive, I would buy all 3 and see what I could do, but just keep in the back of my mind that your little one will be perfectly fine if you don't get to it!
Maybe this helps?

I will be doing three prgrams also LHTH, LHFHG and Beyond this coming fall. I think you can do it. They are laid out so perfect it is so easy to move from on the other. I also might just do half of each program a day it may take longer but I know there will be days when we will do more or less just depending on what is going on. Of course this is what I plan and we all know it doesn't always go that way. But most important is that the kids contiune to learn and enjoy it!

OK, I have contemplated doing 3 this year, but I am going to wait. Our 2 yr old will be 3 on the 20th. I am going to wait until next year to get LHTH for her. But the cool thing I did last night was put on our "schedule" to have our other 2 girls "do school" with her right now. It will be just 15min for one to do and 15min for the other. By next year (after the baby is born and hubby is deployed) they will be used to helping in that area. So I think your 9 yr old could help in that area. Children that age LOVE to teach the younger!

April,
Thats such a good idea! We employed our oldest son to do some "fun school" time with our littlest one too. We also had our 2 middle boys have some "school time" together to work on letters, sounds, numbers, etc. It worked out really well (and freed up time for me to work one-on-one with my other kiddos).
Creative scheduling can go a long way. And seriously, sometimes its easier to do several programs, even at half speed, then to try to group a large age-spread together.
However, Debbie, since your 4 and 6 year old are within 2 years of one another, you may also be able to combine them a little further down the road, (once you see how they come along in language arts, listening skills, and math.)
Blessings,
Carrie
