Who Reads? DITHOR ?s

Post by glperky » Fri Dec 27, 2013 10:18 am

In DITHOR, who reads the books, me or my DS? If I read them, then can I combine my youngest two sons?

Could I read them instead? Then I could combine.

You don't want to read them because it is their reading/literature program. The goals are focusing on their reading comprehension and being able to identify different things each lesson. Storytime is more the time for them to process things they hear read to them. In the lower levels they read aloud some to you, but otherwise they do the reading independently. It should would that while one is reading you could do one of the other boxes with another dc.

Definitely he reads it to you. This is his reading. Each one will need to do their own work at their own level in reading, even when you have 2 on the same level this is one subject you do not combine because each one needs to develop in it. I always have my DD read to me. Only occasionally do I let her read it to herself. If she reads to herself, she doesn't learn how to read the difficult words, she just skips over them, or she thinks she knows how to say them but often she is wrong. So now, in the early stages of it, I think it's important for her to read it aloud to me so I can help correct her if she needs it.
