Do the books have "heavy" content?

I'm wondering if any of the books I'd be reading to the kids have heavy content that might be too much for a sensitive child? We're still discussing our options for curriculum and have found that several books from another company are liable to be inappropriate for our younger student due to him being very sensitive. I'm just wanting to make sure this isn't also the case with HOD.

No. And if there's anything like that, which is very rare, there's a heads-up in the guide.

Carrie is very careful to pick books that are appropriate for the age of the guide which is one of the reason she doesn't do World History until they are older. Like the pp said if there is anything that might be of concern she puts it in the guide so you can skip or reword if you want. The only time there might be an issue is if you are trying to use an older guides read alouds with a student that is too young for the guide, ie a child that is the age for Bigger listening in to the story time's from CTC on up. Even with the older guides the books are gentle compared to some books from other companies.

Good to know. My kids have decided they want HOD after talking with them this morning. I'll have one placed in Bigger Hearts and the other either in CtoC or RtoR. I'll try to do the older's read alouds without the younger if I need to. Hoping I can preread stuff but not sure that will work with the toddlers antics at all hours of the day and night. Now to see what DH thinks.

I totally agree with others, the books are not "heavy" and the content is very appropriate for the age. I have one child who is also very sensitive. We cannot hardly watch anything movie-wise, any feature length film has too much drama/tension for her. Which is fine, we don't watch much anyway. I have also found this message board to be a good resource for helping me pick out storytime books that would not be disturbing to my sensitive daughter. There are some really great options out there!
