Switching Science in CTC

Post by juliegmom » Mon Nov 04, 2013 7:47 pm

I posted this on the CTC board and then realized that I probably should have posted my question here. I'm looking for options for my child who has already gone through Apologia Zoo 3: Land Animals. Since CTC also covers anatomy I'm thinking that Apologia Human Anatomy may be a good substitution. Are there many notebooking pages linked to land animals? I'm just wondering how much we will miss out on if we use a different Apologia book for science.

Would love to hear your thoughts. Thank you!

We are still in the Zoology 3 book. There are the questions to answer every week and then they work on making a book of animal tracks. The notebooking pages set from HOD only goes with the history readings. Could you replace it with Zoo 1 or 2? I think those would be the closest replacements. I would think there would be repetition if you did anatomy.

Thank you Christine! We are not there yet, but I'm excited to start HOD's 4 year history cycle. I really want to use CTC as it's written. After talking with my husband I think that we will be putting Zoo 3 on the back burner so that we can save it for when we get to CTC.

We had to make some curriculum changes so that I could come alongside my mom who is battling cancer. Unfortunately, this offset my plan to start my daughter in Preparing. We are basically sticking to the three R's this year and utilizing the library to cover history and science when we can. I'm looking ahead and planning for 5th grade which is a year and a half away, but that's just how I roll...some times I think it's an illness! :)

Hi juliegmom! :D I am currently finishing out CTC, and my ds has loved the science! The special notebooking pages he has made have become keepsakes. The experiments have been a blast! The other books he has read have offset Land Animals nicely, and added some neat variety. I'm glad to hear your ds is going to get to enjoy CTC's science as it is written! From one busy homeschool mom to another, and from one daughter going through a parent's cancer battle to another (my dad has pancreatic cancer now), I cannot tell you the relief I get just opening my CTC guide and teaching the day totally as it is planned. It really is such a comfort. I have prayed for your mom, and I hope that you have a wonderful year next year with CTC!!!

Thank you so much for your prayers! Each day we endeavor to walk with HIm, but the walk is not always easy. He is faithful though - and on the darkest days - oh how the promise of heaven and perfectly healthy bodies and imagining my Dad (who sang with a quartet whose other 3 members are already in heaven) singing to His Savior becomes something to imagine with a measure of hopeful... yet still heavy as we cannot imagine him not here with us... happiness. I know you know what I mean. God bless - and prayers for you and your mom are going up tonight here too.

In Christ,
Julie
