Socratic Discussion Q.

Post by gregswife03 » Fri Oct 18, 2013 6:40 am

We are looking to switch from Tapestry of Grace to Missions to Modern Marvels, and I have a question about the Socratic discussions. Is there any kind of a script for the parent-teacher to use for these discussions, or do we need to read the same material as our students in order to facilitate these discussions?
Thanks!

Katie,

The guide has specific questions that the students reflect upon and answer in short form as preparation for the discussion. Then, when the student(s) meet with the parent, the parent's first job is to read aloud the speech that the questions in the guide are based upon. This works well as speeches just beg to be read aloud, and the students gain another exposure to the material! After that the parent has a good perspective of the speech to aid in the discussion questions. :D In this way, the parent does not need to prepare ahead of time, yet is ready to discuss the material. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

Thanks Carrie! I just sat down to read my print out of the "introduction" to Missions to Modern Marvels, and right there was the answer to my question. So excited to get started with this guide... come on January! :)
Thanks again,
Katie
