CTC - Help with Turkish Delight

Post by jhperry » Sun Sep 15, 2013 8:24 pm

I tried the Turkish Delight recipe in A Child's Geography and mine has been cooling for several hours but is still runny, no where near the consistency needed to cut into squares. Just wondering if anyone else has tried it and could offer any tips. I did use a candy thermometer and removed it from the heat as soon as it reached 220 degrees, stirred in the flavoring and food coloring and poured into a pan. Any tips??

Watching this because ours didn't work either. I"m thinking we didn't cook it long enough, but I like Turkish Delight so I"d really love to know.

Any results yet with the Turkish Delight? I have been wondering how that recipe would go for me, since we seem to have "bad luck" with the HOD recipes at times, usually end up with salt dough too moist and have to add extra flour, etc. Not sure if it's related to living as missionaries in a tropical country? The heat, or the flour here, or something? Anyway, we need to make the Turkish Delight soon, and ds is very enthusiastic since the Narnia books are his favorites and he's always longed to taste Turkish Delight. But I am nervous about using my precious bag of real almonds that my mom sent overseas to us...if the recipe isn't guaranteed to work! Maybe I better substitute another nut from here that is okay, but doesn't taste nearly as good? Let me know if anyone has found the key to making the recipe work well!

Wish I could help, we were disappointed too! I didn't try again, I did put mine in the fridge overnight but it didn't help. I asked the facebook group as well but no one seemed to have success with it either. So, if I were you I wouldn't try the recipe in the book. I looked at some others online but haven't tried any of them yet. One idea might be to try it without the nuts first just to see if it gets the right consistency, then make it again with them if it works. Let us know if you have success! :D
