Your schoolroom inspires great ideas!

Light - whether you can get it naturally or not so naturally

- is a great way to brighten up a room and make it inviting. The big window is lovely and a neat place for dc to work. We try to open up the curtains and let the light flood in too. I will say I have an office in our basement, and it has only 1 very tiny window, but it is very light and airy. I had my dh put in a lot of recessed can lighting with white ceiling sections and light colored walls and carpet. I put big splashes of color in nooks of the room with cheap area rugs from Walmart to add cheery color (brown background with large hot pink, orange, and cream flowers - hey - SOMETHING has to be pink in my house

), and a bright reading lamp, and even though it's in a room with practically no natural light, its bright and cheery. So, if you have no windows to work with gals - adding some artificial lighting, painting the room a light color, finding some bright lamps, and adding some cheerful rugs can go a long way to create that light and airy feeling too.

I LOVE your big whiteboard. I bet you use that a TON! We do school in our living room, dining room, and kitchen, so I use small mobile whiteboards, but if I had a spare wall to hang one permanently in a room dedicated to school - I would soooooo do that in a heartbeat. Thanks for sharing this, as it gets our creative juices flowing. As homeschooling moms, we get to create the atmosphere of learning, and even small dark spaces can be made cheerful with a few creative changes. Your pics provide great ideas to try!
