My husband and I had originally planned to used history and science textbooks for this year, but after seeing them we shipped them ALL back. When the HOD books came, my son was begging to read some of the books. (I let him, since he's happy to read them again when they are assigned.) It was priceless, though, when my husband and I looked at each other and almost simultaneously said something like, "Hmmm... I don't think this would have happened if we had stuck with the textbooks!"arstephia wrote:We have done only 2 days of Rev2Rev. The extension reading is Calico Captive. Tonight I got back from a late walk and saw my son's light was on. I went in and he quickly threw a book under his chair with a sheepish look. He then grinned and showed me what he was "hiding" -- it was Calico Captive!!! He then said, "I'm sorry Mom, I just can't help myself! I thought I would just get a head start on tomorrow's reading but I think I am way past that now..."I told him he had half an hour left to read and then lights off.
He gave me the biggest smile and dove back into the story. That is a battle I am not willing to fight. A kid who wants to spend his free time reading "contraband" HOD books? I'll take it! We are doing Rev2Rev for 8th grade so it isn't that he HAS to do the extension activities for hs credit so I am letting this one slide. I had to try very hard to not laugh as I left the room. I have to think there aren't many moms of 13yo boys facing THAT as the big discipline problem in the house. LOL. I love HOD.
