Re: My son has decided to go back to school

Thanks for your replies ladies. Yes, I agree the math is solidly 8th grade-it is not enough. Ialso have to agree with the evaluation on the English. I never had English that was so thorough when I was in high school! I have gone through the HOD catalog and also checked with HSLDA for suggest...

My son has decided to go back to school

We came from a super conservative Mennonite setting three years ago. Our children went to the day school the church had, and graduation was at 8th grade. They used mostly Rod and Staff materials, which in the English and Math are pretty hearty. I have heard many people say that R&S math would be equ...

Map Trek

I noticed Map Trek is listed in the catalog for more than one level. Do I have to purchase it with each level or is it just a one time purchase but we use different maps depending on what level we are doing?

Thanks

Principles of Mathematics

I am curious now that this has been out for a "school year", what anyone here thinks of it? I am going to use it for my one daughter,(age 14) who is going into MtoM this fall. She has done another math curriculum (R&S) her entire schooling so far, but is so bored with the way R&S presents stuff, and...

Re: English has become over her head

I am very familiar with Rod and Staff curricula-its good and thorough, but rather dull and dry. Give her a break-maybe try some oral review or make a game out of some of the grammar terms to keep it light and easy. She will not fall behind, and the mental break may help her actually recall some of t...

teaching computers

Our family has been on a journey that led us to not using much technology for a good number of years, and now that we are back in the 21st century, I am stumped at how to teach computer literacy to our children. When I was in highschool back in the 80's computers were so....well like a dinosaur comp...

still have questions...

So I know what narration is-after hearing a story etc the child tells me what he read, right? I do that :) Love the result and I even taught our church school teachers to use it when some children had comprehension issues This can also be done in written form, right? What level does this start in, o...

Re: I need your opinion

I am not using HOD yet, so i can't speak to the question on placement,(that is what I am doing now-figuring out where to place.) BUT....don't be too caught up in the grade level idea. I have homeschooled two separate times, and the thing that helps me is not to think so much of "doing school at home...

Re: New and stuck on where to place my girls...

I have been perusing the placement charts-and while the skills in reading and math push them up to higher levels, my gut tells me that making it somewhat easier is probably better. They have not done narration, at least not with our homeschooling the last year or so. They did lots of penmanship prac...

New and stuck on where to place my girls...

Hi, I am new here, but have poured over this board for a couple days now. I was so excited when the new catalog came in the mail :D However after studying it for a bit, I am really not sure where to place my girls. :? I should probably give a little  backround before asking my questions. (sorr...
