Re: Roman numerals in Singapore Math

I use Saxon and Roman Numerals are in the Algebra 1/2 book. This is our first year, so I'm not sure if it's introduced earlier or not.

It is also covered in Story of the World, Vol. 1 (Chapter 35). I was thinking you could just grab that at the library, but it's in the Activity Guide.

Re: Bigger Storytime and DITHOR

Thanks. I'm not worried about reading level. I have looked up most of them either in my library or online samples. I just was wondering if they would fit what DITHOR is teaching them...I had read before that Carrie's selections for DITHOR fit best. It sounds like they would work if we needed them to...

Bigger Storytime and DITHOR

I was wondering if the Storytime books for Bigger could be used for DITHOR. Or should I just order the appropriate book pack?

Thanks.

Re: R2R with Foester's Algebra?

thank you for your input. this is our first year homeschooling, so we started with saxon b/c he liked the layout. Since he's been using that, I don't think the workload with Foerster's would be a problem. Saxon has a LOT of practice problems. He tested through the previous level of Saxon last summer...

Re: R2R with Foester's Algebra?

just to clarify, are you saying he'd do Algebra twice if we did no-nonsense and then foerster's? Is that just because of age/maturity? I know I've seen it mentioned before that sometimes algebra is difficult for younger kids because their brains aren't ready for the abstract thinking...is that what ...

R2R with Foester's Algebra?

Hello! Happy to snow day to any of you in the northeast where we're being clobbered! :) My son will be switching to HOD next year and my plan is to do R2R with him for his 6th grade year. He will ready for Algebra and I've been tossing around a switch in math curriculum. I see that HOD recommends Fo...

Shelly, I love the story about learning to skip! I LOVE watching my 7 yo skip (he just learned last year) and you just can't be unhappy while skipping! It always puts a smile on my face and his!

Re: Week-in-Review Feb. 23-27, 2015

Julie, I love what you said about Riley. I have an 11yo who I just started homeschooling this year. One of my goals has been to really appeal to the kid I know he is deep down. He definitely pushes the "inappropriate" reaction and I think that is to mask his true feelings. It's almost as if he doesn...

What happens after World History

Hello. I'm new to the HOD world and you ladies have been very helpful so far! I have a question about High School. I know Carrie has been ill and the WH guide came out in stages, so I'm not sure where things stand for the years following that guide. Has she mentioned somewhere what the plan is for w...

Re: Chores, helping, good attitudes...,

I don't know that I'll be much help as I struggle with the same things and my kids are older. At least you are not alone!! I had an eye opener one day when I visited another homeschooling friend. She has 5 kids, two of which are the same ages as mine (11 and 7) and two younger than that, one older. ...

[quote="my3sons"]Hi Michelle! :D Would you mind sharing what state you live in? As far as RTR, I think that should be an easy one for health as the Boy Option and Girl Option are health-related topics... http://www.heartofdakota.com/rtr_hearts-for-him-descriptions.php#boyhood Thank you, Julie. Re: health

Health is quite vague, which actually is quite nice as it makes it more flexible! What HOD guide(s) are you using right now? There is generally something "health" oriented anyway. I always think it's nice to just do what you are doing and 'count' that, as this should be the beauty of homeschooling ...

So is Abeka! Definitely boring, but I was surprised at the "class" references in the teacher guide! Thanks for the warning...that was another one I was considering.
