Sticking with HOD long term
If you are a long time HOD user, how have you stuck with it long term? I am not asking that because I think HOD is lacking or anything. It's a wonderful program. We used HOD when our kids were younger. I struggle with using a set schedule. We all love choosing our own books, activities, etc. Having ...

Re: Help! Homeschooling Woes & Regrets…
Boy can I relate, right down to the being in ill health for a couple years and having things fall through the cracks and the kids having to be pretty independent. Hugs to you! I understand. My oldest will be graduating in May  and I have so many regrets. One of those being that I didn't stay co...

Accuracy of American history, how books were chosen
Hello! We are looking at coming back to HOD after many years away. Over the last few years I have done a lot of research and learning about many things. One thing God has opened my eyes to is the fact that many things we were taught in mainstream education were lies, or at best, half truths. I have ...

Re: Fear the loss of Family time, but we need consistency
I had some rare one on one time with my oldest this morning. We chatted and talked about school some. He told me he definitely likes literature based studies over a more traditional textbook approach. He likes narrating and does a very good job. I showed him examples of a couple different things I h...

Fear the loss of Family time, but we need consistency
I am highly considering coming back to using HOD. We have been doing Master Books mostly this year. While it's working fine I am just not sure that it is the right fit long term. We have mostly been a CM family with workbooks/textbooks thrown in here or there out of necessity during certain seasons....

Re: Doing 2 Guides while keeping “Family Subjects Time”
I am wondering the same thing. That is the main thing that is keeping me back from coming back to HOD.

Re: MeWe?
I am on Fb still...and MeWe. The HOD Moms Hangout groups are just that. A place where HOD moms can talk about all kinds of things. The one on MeWe is just starting to catch some steam, but is still not as active as the FB group. There are several FB groups that are specific to each HOD guide. To me,...

Re: Reviving forums
Lisa, Good for you guys for never having FB! In some huge ways I wish I never had either. Then on the other hand I have made some really good friendships with people there that I met in homeschool groups. There are a few of those friends that I talk to almost daily. What's nice though is that we hav...

Reviving forums
I wish I knew how to revive the old fashioned forums and message boards. It seems that things like Facebook have just completely taken over everyone's lives, mine included. I long for the days before social media. I have made many good friends on fb, but life has not been The same since fb ho...

Only history
Do any of you use only the history portion of the HOD guides? Maybe also the poetry and literature.

Faltering in my decisions
I am very much faltering in my decision for which direction to go for school this year and I am running out of time. Each year it seems that we get a few weeks in and something isn’t right and we end up switching to something new. This never bodes well and sets a horrible tone for the rest of our ye...

Re: How is evolution approached?
Rice, "My oldest 3 came to HOD in middle school (from AO, incidentally) and now scoff at evolution." Would you say that some of the materials used in AO could actually cause kids to question the truth of the Bible? I have heard other parents say this exact thing which is another reason why I am hesi...

How is evolution approached?
I have been weighing my options very heavily as far as what program to use moving forward. One of the things that is very important to us is how evolution is approached. We don't shy away from it completely with our kids, but we want to make sure the materials we use align with our beliefs as well. ...
