We rewrite the problems vertically. It is so much easier as you move into borrowing and carrying over.

Beyond is perfect for first grade.

I would point out the correct way to spell it, but not harp on it.


I usually present it to my own daughter as.... Actually you spell your Y O U R, O U R spells our but good try.

I try to follow correction with encouragement, so she does not get too frustrated.

I also, am using the 3A/3B textbook and workbook combination. We go over together the textbook pages. Then she attempts the workbook pages on her own.

I have my daughter write her spelling words 3 times each MTW. After she writes it she spells the word aloud. In college I learned a technique read it, write it, say it which means no matter what type of learning your daughter is you have all bases covered. So your daughter will get extra handwriting...

LHTH takes 30 minutes and is done 5 days a week. My daughter did it at 3 and 4. I just changed to the higher level Bible the second go around and added preschool level workbook pages.

We were 8 weeks into LHFHG with my daughter when she broke the wrist of her writing hand. 6 weeks with no writing put a damper on my planning. However, those weeks of healing are just as stressful for our little ones. I pray he heals completely.

Another helpful hint: Contact your local school board to get a list of local homeschool groups. We have an awesome group here. We have a homeschool group for 4-H, Girl Scouts, Book Club, and more. It will really help your daughter transition better if you can locate homeschoolers in her own age range.
