Re: Third Year of Spanish
For proficiency in a foreign language, we have found it essential to have live interaction with a Spanish speaker. This is the one area where we used outside help in our school, utilizing online classes as well as a local university for our daughter who now majors in Spanish in college.

Re: Placement for special needs high school
Just wanted to let you know that our 15 yo daughter is just finishing Bigger. She thrived there. Making steady progress and enjoying the learning. Do not be afraid of the "grade" he places in. HOD is great at intentionally growing them step by step

Re: Missionary Mums & Getting into College
Hi Nicole! I know in the US, you'd find little trouble. Most colleges are pleased to have homeschool graduates and require very little besides SAT scores and transcripts. As far as your students making the transition, I think you will find the transition on par with other students. I would say that ...

Guide Advice :-)
So many of us get hung up with finishing a guide in a Sept-May year. But let me tell you how heavenly it is to be starting our year with 2 of my 3 HODer's being mid-guide. So glad they each get to face the challenge of a new guide one at a time!!! God's timing is so much better than mine

Re: To "say" or not to "say"?
It is common when children learn a new "dress-up" for their writing to over use it. But with time, it will diminish. And some new technique will take its place

Re: Carrie is a genius
And I have to add, that it is so obvious that she is praying for God's guidance as she is writing. Sometimes the way the pieces fit together so beautifully, you couldn't do it if you tried :-) We are on week 7 in CTC. The way the introduction of Israel in the GEOGRAPHY book, blends with the Ancient ...

DITHOR Christmas??
We usually take a few weeks "off" at Christmas time and do "Christmas School". Last year we studied Christmas around the world. This year, as two of my girls are doing American History, we will do Christmas in America, using A Pioneer Christmas, similar to the Pioneer Sampler book, plus a few other ...

Re: New, and Special Needs
I began using Beyond last year with my 13yo special needs daughter. She is new to speaking english, most likely FAS and would be classified as mild MR. With her dance class and our co-op, we made it about half way through. We found it a perfect fit! We did our best to do all as written, since I know...

Re: Carrie: Coming to TX again?
Even as I get ready to graduate my first child, I have never been to a convention... Does Carrie speak at the Midwest Convention, or is there just a display of HOD?

Pictures please!
I am doing 4 levels of HOD with my kiddos. Some special needs here, with the latest being adopted 1 year ago, with no English skills, on top of her special needs. She is 13 and doing Bigger. Seems like a great fit. My problem is, I can not seem to get to the projects with her! (or with my 5yo doing ...

Re: Non English speaker
We are just going to use LHFHG next year, but one thing I was thinking is that there would be an advantage of reading books from the same series and author as your read aloud. With the similar vocabulary, similar style, etc., the familiarity would simplify the learning process.

Re: Preparing question and looking for Catholics
One thing I have noticed as my dd is doing Res to Ref, there are notes in the guide with alerts saying that if you are Catholic, you may want to skip or explain certain parts.

Re: Help Fitting in DITHOR
Also wanted to say that we started DITHOR with our 9yo several weeks ago and we love it! She has huge gaps due to early trauma. I was worried about filling these. When I looked more closely at DITHOR I realized it was designed to cover just the issues I thought we needed to find a "program" for. God...
