Reading about History CTC
My ds (11 at the time) did his own reading about history in CTC last year, but looking ahead at next year, I am wondering if my dd (will be 10) will be able to handle the first book on her own. She is currently in Preparing, and I read aloud the history sections with her, as I did with my ds before....

Re: CTC Storytime
We used CTC last year, and I chose to mix and match from the history and boys sets. I just took a more relaxed approach. Tried to choose which of the history set books I wanted to read to him, first. Then I counted up the weeks in between and tried to fit in a boys set book that was approximately th...

Re: CTC Unit 34 Box 6?
Thanks, ladies. I will just find something for him to copy in there or let him choose something then.

Re: CTC Unit 34 Box 6?
I'm hoping to bump this up; surely someone out there has a CTC guide and can help me figure out what to do for this box? I'd really appreciate it. I must just be overlooking something.

Re: Canadian's using HOD
We are Canadians (living overseas) finishing up CTC right now, and will use RTR (I assume you mean 'Resurrection to Reformation') next year. These 2 guides are about Ancient Times and Medieval Times mostly, so I didn't feel the need to add in any Canadian history... except for extra books I keep aro...

CTC Unit 34 Box 6?
I must be overlooking something in my CTC guide, but I really can't figure out what my ds needs to copy into unit 34 box 6. It has a picture of a gladiator helmet in it, I think, so I assume he should copy something from the Draw & Write Through History, correct?

Re: CTC - Help with Turkish Delight
Any results yet with the Turkish Delight? I have been wondering how that recipe would go for me, since we seem to have "bad luck" with the HOD recipes at times, usually end up with salt dough too moist and have to add extra flour, etc. Not sure if it's related to living as missionaries in a tropical...

Re: Do kids always start disliking school around 8-9 years o
My ds was also that way too starting at the end of grade 2 (he was already 8 almost 9 by then). I was so disappointed since I had always worked hard to make school enjoyable for him, and he loved it before that age/grade! There were things he still enjoyed (like history), but I believe it was the la...

Re: What age to learn typing?
I actually meant to say that I have Typing Instructor for Kids, but I'm not sure how that differs, or if it does, from Typing Instructor. I just know this program has lots of fun games and motivational tools for younger kids to enjoy. But I think my ds will still enjoy it when he is older, so I migh...

Re: What age to learn typing?
Thanks for your input. Typing Instructor is the one I am using, and I really think it's great. Haven't looked at other programs, though, to see if they move slower, as that would benefit him. I saw some online practice games that maybe he could use in the meantime. But I will consider that thread, t...

What age to learn typing?
I think it would really be great if my ds (almost 11) could learn to use the keyboard properly when researching for CTC history (coming school year) as well as possibly for typing out final copies of writing projects. He has been trying to learn off and on for several years, though, and keeps gettin...

Shepherding a Child's Heart by Ted Trip is also a great parenting book. We reread that one every few years to get back on track.

Re: Grammar and my 10 yr. old!
Thanks, Julie (& others), for your advice. I did faithfully do all the oral review questions this year, knowing that it was helping him retain more than he would have normally. He actually did very well with that most of the time, especially with things that had just been covered recently, but as th...

Grammar and my 10 yr. old!
My ds is almost 11 yrs. old, just about finished with Preparing (gr. 4), and finishing up a year of R & S 4. His spelling has really improved this year, and he is loving the history in Preparing, but grammar is a headache! In the past he used FLL though level 3 before switching into R & S 4 this yea...
