Re: Reading Question
Thanks for the responses! Today my dd actually did a lot better with putting the sounds together even with some that she was sounding out for the first time! Thanks for the ideas we will try them and see if it helps.

Re: Perfecting our Rod and Staff plan
We are using Rod and Staff for the second year and I truely believe that the lessons are most effective when I don't skimp on the oral review. I think this is really where the information "sticks." Since this part is done aloud it really doesn't take much time but it's easy to skip over things like ...

Reading Question
I have a reading question concerning my dd who turned 5 in march. We are working our way through TRL and she is sounding out words, YAAAAY, but she sometimes gets stuck in the sounding out part and fails to hear the actual word. Does that make any sense? For example dad might sound like ddddd aaaaaa...

Re: O/T hoping for some Godly advice
Thank you ladies for speaking plain. I guess that I was concerned that as a mother I might be overreacting to the situation.

O/T hoping for some Godly advice
Hello ladies. This is off topic however I love the christian attitude represented here so I was hoping for some Godly advice with my dilemma. My dd10 has had a bit of trouble with academics (HOD has helped her improve by leaps and bounds in the past two years!) and she has a cousin(public schooled) ...

Re: Rod & Staff vs Climbing to Good English
I've used both. Climbing to Good English for 1st grade and Rod and Staff after. I prefer Rod and Staff. It does involve the parents more but really doesn't take long to complete. I have one dd who has an aversion to workbooks and one who will use anything I throw her way and they both prefer Rod and...

Re: Confession about art
Well in my own experience my daughters have really remembered so much more from the lessons when there is a hands on/art activity tied to it. I haven't always known what the value of an activity may be but have been amazed at how my girls have ideas linked to activities in their little minds. Just m...

Myths???
Hello everyone! I am curious if anyone knows whether myths will be covered in HOD? I feel like I need some guidance in this area and I'm not even sure if they are something I want to teach yet or not. Any thoughts? Is it important to cover these stories? Thanks for any insight.

Storytime
Hello to all. So my two older girls are cruising through Bigger and about this time I like to look ahead to get an idea of what is in store for our upcoming year. They are having a great year and are on track to begin Preparing in the fall. As I was browsing the books included in Preparing I couldn'...

Re: Copywork: Poem title question
I've always thought that it was quotes for a poem title and underline for a book title. Maybe someone who is certain will chime in.
