Help with placement

My 10 year old daughter is currently in the 4th grade in public school. I am taking her out next year to homeschool. Here is where my problem lies, she is not a good reader (probably on a 2nd maybe early 3rd grade level) and also is not a good speller. In placement I am confused on where to begin he...

Re: Behind? Or ok?

Thanks so much for the encouragements ladies....I wish I wasn't so "uptight" about this kind of stuff. My kids are doing great in their books now, the only thing is my son who is doing 2nd grade math ( as an "uptight" mom I am a little worried he is behind, he is 9 and in the 3rd grade ) and also my...

Re: Behind? Or ok?

Ok ladies....for those of you who started in August, are you going to just homeschool year round and take your time, or do you plan on taking the "summer off"? I would like to take the summer off and just do workbooks this summer and then start fresh with the next HOD book in August....If you plan o...

Re: I dont know what to do....

Well upon talking with our "Principal" , my husband. He told me to take him to the local home school store and have him sit down and look at the math books and choose one that way. We have purchased Horizons math 2 he said he likes it because it looks like the math he had at school. Praying this is ...

I dont know what to do....

My ds, is having so much trouble with "basic" math, addition and subtraction. He starts his math lessons already "defeated" and it breaks my heart. We are first time homeschoolers and when I ordered the package for Bigger Hearts, I ordered the Singapore math 2A and B. That did not go over well...

Is this normal???

I am having issues with my ds who is 9 and doing Bigger. I took him out of pcs ( private christian school) and this is our first year homeschooling. He is a straight A student and was asked to be in the gifted program at that...however, with our homeschooling efforts has come hardships. He does not ...

Wondering.....

Hello. We are going into our 2nd Unit with Bigger and LHFHG. I feel as though there is something my ds could be doing independently, but I am not sure what. I might be going about this the wrong way, but I pretty much read everything to him and also, go over math and english with him. Dont get me wr...

Great first day

I just want to tell you how well our first day went. :D We started at 9 and ended at 12:05 and that was with a 20 minute outside break in between! :o Now I realize it wont be like that everyday, but it made the first day a breeze! Things really worked out with juggling LHFHG and BHFHG, although I ha...

We will be starting on Aug. 24th, so I am getting things ready now! I am so excited and so scared al...

Re: any ideas for time allotments for each block?

Kathleen, Thank you so much for "chimming" in! Thats exactly what I needed to hear. Thank you also for the link that Julie has done in the past. I looked at one, but the one I looked at was doing LHFHG at half speed so I was trying to incorporate everything at full speed. I understand what your sayi...
