Re: HS Evaluator LOVED HOD!
I just wanted to echo a similar experience to Gigi's. Our supervising teacher homeschooled her children. She said she wishes they had Heart of Dakota back then or that she could go back and redo with it. She loves it and recommends it to families in our district all the time. She visits 4 times a ye...

Research in CTC and RTR
Research... I haven't loved using Wikipedia for research and think I could use a Bible dictionary instead. Do any of you have a good resource you use to answer the research questions (particularly in CTC and RTR)? I would love recommendations.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Re: Science Answer Key
I'm so glad you are enjoying the scientific method used in HOD - we do too! :D I think it helps my dc see themselves as being the "scientists" discovering new and exciting things. My dc and I use the "key idea" to double-check our conclusion, and that has worked well. I am wondering if you'd seen t...

Science Answer Key
I'm doing Preparing Hearts this year and did Bigger last year. My kids enjoy the science days where we write out question, guess, procedure, conclusion. But, could HOD publish or post on a website the answers to science? I am often confused what the "conclusion" should be for the science boxes. And,...

Re: Anyone doing Preparing?
I love Preparing Hearts! I started it in 3rd grade with my oldest and it was so good, my 1st grader didn't miss anything. We had to do it half speed all of 3rd grade because 4 hours was challenging enough. Instead of skipping things, I just did what we could get done in 4 hours. This year, my 4th gr...

Re: Bigger in 2nd grade?
MamaPajama, I did move my children through a guide a year, including 2nd grade in Bigger. I didn't slow down unless a child was struggling with skills in a guide. Doing Preparing this year (for 3rd grade) proved to be very difficult for my 8 year old. We did it half speed and never were able to spee...

Re: Bible challange for my kids in Preparing and CTC
We have started giving our kids $1 for every verse they memorize. I realize that would be a lot for Philippians. But, we don't pay for chores or household responsibilities since they need to contribute to making our home. We decided paying them for hard work and commiting God's Word to memory in the...

Re: Plan of Instruction form for IA...
Welcome to Iowa!! I hope you enjoy living here. Cold weather, warm hearts. We follow the same form from NICHE and list math book, heart of dakota for language arts/reading/writing/history/science, and Rod and Staff for Grammar. I'm also pretty vague on the form. The homeschool conference is in June ...

Re: Picking a historical fiction book for DITHOR
I bought the Heart of Dakota book list for DITHOR and it is awesome! So helpful because it's broken down into the genres and further broken down into reading levels. It's the most helpful tool for me and I can write down on it what ones are at the library and what ones I own. They are just great boo...

Re: Dictation Questions
Are you supposed to let them look at it, then they start writing it? I'm wondering if I'm doing dictation wrong. The first day, I have my son copy it out of the book. The second day, I read it to him and he writes it. If it's all correct in spelling and punctuation and capitalization, then we move o...

oviraptors in Preparing
We are doing Preparing. On page 41 of "One Small Square - Cactus Desert", it lists an oviraptor as a reptile in the desert. I looked it up on Wikipedia and it only lists it as a dinosaur. So, it begs the question, what is this reptile listed with all of today's animals in the desert? Is it a modern ...

Re: Preparing Questions - poem "To Any Reader"
We did this poem this week. This explains how difficult poetry is for us. My kids often don't understand poems and sometimes I don't know the answers to the questions. Are we just an extreme left brain family or what? :D me: What was the poet probably remembering from his own childhood as he wrote t...
