Newcomer here, hi!

Post by Bilqis » Thu Jun 02, 2011 12:00 pm

Hello there everyone, how are you all? I am so glad to be part of the Heart of Dakota family!
I have four children aged 10, 8 1/2, 7 and 4. I was thinking of using the Preparing Hearts For His Glory with the older three and the Little Hands To Heaven with the youngest. The 7 yr old is very bright and is reading at an advanced level, likewise is his Maths level, only his handwriting and Language Arts need focussing on. I just want to give them a World History program rather than just concentrating on American History. Could anyone advise if this would work?
Thank you very much.

Bilqis,
Welcome to HOD!! :D We are so glad to be here and I know you will be blessed by HOD and these ladies here are amazing! :D :D I was wandering if you have had a chance to look over the placement chart? If so where do you think each child places, specifically the 7 :D yr old. I think as long as the 10 and 8 yr old place well in Preparing you could easily place them there. I found it so important to place (using the placement chart) our own sons when we started using HOD.

I also thought that the overview of world history sounded great, but realized that I needed to put my 7 and 9 yr old together (now 8 and 10) and that they both fit well into Bigger. At HOD placement is important because they are not just learning about history in the guides. Each guide teaches very important skills (narration, writting, dictation, at differant levels) and as they go up they are learning to be more independent a little at a time, so each guide increases in skill and ability. My 7yr is also very smart and picks things up quickly, but he is all boy and does not love to write. There is quite a bit more writting in Preparing than in Bigger, which makes a really big difference. When we started Bigger, my 7yr old had to go slowly and it was more writing than he really wanted to do. I just waited for him and he is doing very well now!! I think you could really do Bigger with all of your children maybe adding the extensions for the oldest, but again your 7yr may place somewhere different like Beyond? What are you thinking? :D I hope this was not altogether just confusing :?

Welcome to the HOD Board! :D I agree with Brandi's advice, and would love to hear more about your dc after you check out the placement chart. HOD looks at each family's needs individually, including each child, so you end up with the best fit for your own family overall, as each family is different. :D This board is full of encouraging, helpful, wonderful ladies, and HOD is such a blessing to use in our homes. I'm glad you're here, and we'll all chime in and help out here after you tell us where each of your dc place according to the first page of the placement chart, and a bit about each of them with the chart in mind...

Looking forward to getting to know you here! :D
