How to place dd for reading in Beyond

Post by tbarr12 » Sun May 29, 2011 2:08 pm

I will be starting dd (age 7 by then) in Beyond this fall. She is currently working through The Reading Lesson, but is only on about Lesson 12. I plan to continue working with her on it for the summer, but don't know if we'll finish by mid-august when we start Beyond. My question is: should I order an Emerging Reader Set for her, or wait until she finishes TRL? I'm assuming at some point next year (hopefully early in the school year), she'll begin the emerging Readers. I'd like to save shipping by ordering everything all together. I'm thinking I should go ahead and order them, but since I've never done the program, wanted some input from others. Thanks.

I would go ahead and get the emerging readers so you will be ready with them when she is. We didn't use TRL so I can't say how the emerging readers fit in with that. I would think it's likely though when you finish TRL, she will be ready to begin the emerging readers as they are paced to be used after a phonics program is done They are wonderful in building reading comprehension and moving a child's reading skills along so I know you will find them beneficial when the time is right. It sounds like you will be getting to them sometime in the next year so I will get them so you'll be ready. :D

I would go ahead and get them. When we finished The Reading Lesson, my dd was ready to start them and she has done great! We decided to start with the Early Readers Bible and now we are doing the Beginners Bible - trying to stretch it out a little more by doing both Bibles. :D We will be starting Beyond in the Fall also. Have fun!

I went ahead and bought them. My ds isn't quite ready for them, but I like knowing when he is I can just pick them up and go. He's also very excited to have them on his school shelf. He knows he's working toward them, which has been a great motivation.

The Emerging Readers are fantastic. My original plan was to borrow from the library, but all of the choices have been so good so far that I ended up buying the rest once we were halfway through. I say, just get them now if it helps with shipping! You'll be sure to use them. :)
