I will be beginning HoD with my kids next year and have a question about Dithor. My 6 year old (in Kindergarten now) reads at a 2nd-3rd grade level. My 3rd grader (almost 9 yrs) reads at a 6th grade level, as does my 4th grader (she's 10 1/2). They have never done DITHOR before. I plan on going through the ERs with my 6 year old, even though he'll breeze right through them, just so he'll get the reading aloud practiced. Plus, he doesn't love to read like the other 2. So I'm not going to put him in the DITHOR program.
My question is for my older 2. Since they've never done anything like this, should I start them in the Level 2/3 student book, or the 4/5 book?

Re: Where to Place in Dithor
Hi Amy!
Your little one will love the ERS! My ds was reading past that level when he began them too, but the comprehension questions helped him prepare reading skill-wise for DITHOR. For your 9 yo, I'd start with Level 2/3. For your 10 1/2 yo, you could start her in Level 2/3 or in Level 4/5. As long as your 10 1/2 yo is a good reader and writer, I think I'd start her in Level 4/5. Here are links for the 2/3 Student Book and the 4/5 Student Book, so you can better decide what fits your 10 1/2 yo...
