I'm getting ready to start LHTH with my 3-year-old. We'll probably go through it pretty slowly between now and the end of next school year. Then I plan to go through it again with her and her little brother.
The year after THAT, she'll be officially in kindergarten, turning 6 in December. Little brother will be 4. She'll be ready for something beyond LHTH (especially after going through it twice!), but little brother will need another year before starting Little Hearts. Once dd is in 1st grade and ds is in K, they'll both be just right for Little Hearts, and I'll be able to combine them after that with no problem.
It's just that one year.... I've thought I could jump to another program for a year, but I figured that a board full of die-hard HOD users could probably help me come up with a plan that would work. (Or you might tell me not to plan so far ahead. But it's one of those questions I can't stop wondering about.)

Re: combining question
I am in the same boat.....5 year old doing LHFHG in the fall and a little sister 2 years behind. Looking forward to seeing some responses.
Re: combining question
Hmmm... how about this?
For 2 years: half-speed LHTH with 2-3 yo resources with dd
Next year: full-speed LHTH with 3-4 yo or 4-5 yo resources, and then add in right side of LHFHG for dd
Next year: full-speed LHFHG, with K options for ds and 1st grade options for dd
What do you think?

Julie

Re: combining question
Coming back to this now that I've done 2 days of LHTH....
First of all, I think my dd really likes it! She's a little shy about showing her enthusiasm, but she's been walking along the big "A" that's taped down in the kitchen, and she'll tell you that A says "A-A-Adam!" She also did really well with the counting caterpillars activity -- I knew she could recite numbers, but I didn't know she could count objects that well.
I think the idea of adding in the right side of LHFHG for her K year is good. I may have to add some extra read-alouds by that point, but given the amount of books lying around our house, that shouldn't be a problem.
Of course it's hard to tell what path her development might take. She is so different from her sister, raising her has been like being a first-time parent all over again! I haven't been able to predict anything.
Thanks for the suggestion!
