Primary Math Question

Post by psreit » Wed Mar 16, 2011 3:57 pm

Dd will be 8 and in 2nd grade this fall. We will be doing Beyond. She is currently working in Earlybird Math, because I felt she needed to cover most of what was included in that. She will finish the last EB book in a few of weeks. I was going to just go right into Primary Math 1A. My question is, would I be holding dd back if I waited until August when I begin Beyond to start 1A. I was thinking that I could review the concepts she learned in EB2 while we finish LHFHG. Telling time and money are areas that she will need a lot of repetition, and it would be beneficial for her to practice simple addition and tens and ones. I'm just not sure if I would be holding her back by doing that. Any advice? It's more for my convenience in following our days in Beyond, but also in looking ahead to what will be covered, I think it is likely that dd will come to some areas that we will need to slow down anyway.

I re-evaluated the situation. DD will be done with EB2B in 3 weeks. We will still have 7 weeks of school to do after that. I guess the best thing would be to go ahead and begin PM1A as I originally planned. That's too much time to wait. :) I answered my own question again. :)

I think that is a wise decision as long as she has understood everything you have doing in math so far. Most of those concepts are going to be coming around again in one way or another so you'll be revisiting concepts along the way. You are correct too that there might be other times when you feel the need to slow down. I know for us, we typically move much slower through the A portion of the year and then the B section flies right by. Just put one of those tabs in your guide that says "Math" and you can flip back and forth easily. :D

Thanks, Patty. For the most part dd has been doing well in EB2B. I know the time and money will take a while, but I think she'll be okay to start 1A. I do have a Math tab now, as we are ahead in the Math box compared to our regular HOD day. We'll just take a day at a time and slow down if need be. :D
