Help with Rod & Staff

Post by anointedhsmom » Wed Mar 09, 2011 10:52 pm

We started our Rod & Staff grammar as scheduled in Preparing this week. I'm wondering how you do the lessons. I've had a hard time getting a flow with it. Should I have him read his textbook first and then teach the lesson from the TM? Or teach the lesson first then he reads and does practice problems? I'm trying to get a schedule together now that we have a feel for the flow of the day and I don't know if I can schedule him to read the lesson on his own or not

Thanks so much!
Blessings,

HI there,

I am doing R&S 3 with my dd and Preparing and we do it together. I read the teacher's manual, she follows along in the student text, and she answers the majority of the questions orally to me. Every now and again I get her to write some answers down, but not often. Then we do the review orally at the end also. It takes between 10-20 minutes a day, depending on how much is involved.

Blessings,

We do the oral review first, then have her follow along while I read the info from her student text. Then we do 2/3 orally and 1/3 written. As our oldest dd has grown, I have turned over the reading of info from her student text to her, I clarify anything she needs help with and then we proceed to do 2/3 orally and 1/3 written.

Hi Paige!

I don't really "teach" the lesson from the TM. We do the 5 oral review questions to start our English time. (Those are in the "teacher print".) Then we read the lesson together alternating paragraphs. Next, the oral part orally. Lastly, I assign at least part of each section to be done in writing. And depending on how many problems there are, we do some of them orally, too.

A time or 2 this year, my son has been done with other work early and read the lesson on his own and started the written part. I still did the oral part with him when I got there.
