So excited at how school is coming together!

Post by MomtoJGJE » Tue Nov 16, 2010 11:44 am

I know this is just inviting trouble, but I have to say it. School is getting easy and fun again!

Evie is getting to where she will go off and play with her sisters, or even by herself, or sit and color/draw.

Jayden is getting through with her unit studies which mostly was working on her math and writing (strength/stamina, not ability... we did handwriting instead of copywork in Beyond) and is finishing up the biography section of DITHOR next week. We also have worked really hard on her being a good bit independent. She has to read all instructions and if she needs help she has to tell me what the instructions are first, plus she has a checklist of what she is to do each day. She'll be starting Bigger half speed in January and continue half speed for at least 1/3 of the guide. Then we'll go 4 days a week after that. We school year round and I don't want her to start Preparing before she's 9.

Grace is doing so well with LHFHG! Plus she's started on the emerging readers schedule.... we started with the Early Readers New Testament because she needs transitioning to reading out of actual books instead of just words, and she's doing awesome with that! She will be beginning the 1st grade options in January... we'll go semi-half speed since we'll be in unit 4 or so with the left side and unit 1 with the right side... it'll be one day of left side then two days of right side to catch up to even.

Julianna is LOVING actually doing school regularly. We are halfway through LHTH and are pausing and just doing some fine motor skills workbooks until February or so.... I'm not sure if we'll start LHTH at the beginning then or just do it from where we are two days a week to stretch it out.

I want to spread Julianna and Grace out so I'm not going to have overlapping guides forever :) So once Grace gets to where she's on the same unit/day with left and right side I'll do 2 or 3 units traditional half speed and then move on to full speed. Then when Julianna starts LHFHG in the fall she'll be going half speed 4 days a week all the way through.

I'm just so excited that things are coming together perfectly considering that in the past 3 months my plans were totally screwed up and I was having to completely revamp my ideas for the future!

It sounds like things are coming together so well for you and your dc! :D It is so nice when the littles reach a stage they can play more with their siblings, or on their own. You are wise to begin to have Jayden read some directions on her own, and then ask for help to clarify. We are doing that now with Riley in Bigger Hearts, and he is slowly learning to take on a little more independence. I bet the checklist really helps too. You have a good plan ahead for her! Grace is already doing her ERS with LHFHG - that's wonderful! She is doing so well. I bet Juliana loves having you to herself for the LHTH/workbook time you have planned. I'm so glad for you - and I think you have a good plan for the kiddos in the years to come! :D :D :D We do have to take time to celebrate as homeschool moms - this is worthy of celebration - hooray! :)

In Christ,
Julie

Lora Beth,

I'm celebrating with you tonight too, as we are in a great groove here as well! :D It's so important to celebrate those successful moments in time along the homeschool journey and hide them in our hearts for the days when things may not go quite as well. :D Thanks for sharing and giving us a chance to rejoice with you!

Blessings,
Carrie
