is this enough writing for a 2nd grader?

Post by Bramble » Mon Aug 30, 2010 11:03 pm

My 2nd grader just turned 7. He is doing LHFHG w/ his 5 yr. old brother. He is not using a handwriting program, so I am having him copy his Bible verse each week and then copy the storytime assignment on day 4. SO he'll only have writing 2 days per week. That doesn't seem like enough, but I'm not sure what else to do?

I have a 7 year old as well, and he is doing "A Reason For Handwriting" book. I don't know what others may think about it, but this is what we do, and it seems to be working out well for us. I have him do 2 pages a day M-Thurs (as we try and take Fridays off). He hasn't complained about it. He also does copywork and writes a few sentences in a science journal twice a week as well.

Bramble,

I agree that we typically advise 7 year olds to do A Reason for Writing A or Italic B, or your own handwriting program daily along with LHFHG. If you don't desire to do a handwriting program, then make sure he is copying something daily. :D

Blessings,
Carrie

oh, I see. I guess I thought since he is a 2nd grader, he didn't need A Reason for Handwriting A. I'll look into something. Thanks!!

I would definitely do a handwriting program of some sort with him...unless he is just a natural at it, that is. If so, I would still have him copy something daily - even just a few sentences in his best handwriting.

yeah, he prints well, so I'm not sure what I am going to do. I want him writing to build up endurance so he needs at least daily copywork. I, however, really want nothing to do w/ putting that together so it might be better to just get A Reason for Handwriting Book B. :D
