suggestions for bulletin board/display area

Post by jacynamommy » Tue Aug 10, 2010 2:09 pm

Hi ladies!
I've already received some great advice on this board, so I'm back with another question. I would like to create a space in our dining area (where we do schoolwork) to display the kids work and also hang Scriptures and words of encouragement...sticker charts, etc. I would like more than a 2x3' area, but I also would like it to be pleasing to the eye...as that's also our dining room!!! Does anyone have any suggestions for me? What do you use? How do you display work? I also need it to be economical, as we live a frugal life! Thanks in advance for any ideas!

Here are a few ideas...

I've done this for gifts in the past but you could make a few and hang these on your wall. They'll look more decorative than just a bulletin board. Buy larger inexpensive picture frames, remove the plastic/glass insert and replace with rolled cork board and the original frame backing. If you mount several frames together you'll have lots of space to hang various projects & charts using push pins.

This is a little industrial-looking but If you live anywhere close to an Ikea store you can purchase rectangular metal boards and use magnets to hang your children's work. They also used to sell strips of colored (black/white) metal to nail to the wall with magnets to hang papers.

You could also cover a lightweight wood board with foam, fabric and diagonal ribbon to match the decor in your dining room.

We don't have a bulletin board but I got this idea for displaying work off another message board. I have a piece of string that I have hung on the wall (like a clothesline) and have clips on it. It's very easy to hang finished work and switch out old pieces. My son absolutely loves to put his work up at the end of the day. You could make it as long or as short as you need it. Since it's in your dining room, if you wanted it to look nicer you could use ribbon and decorative clothespins.

You can see what I'm talking about on my blog http://cherish-each-moment.blogspot.com ... n-our.html
