Timeline in Little Hearts for His Glory

Post by Betameculia » Thu May 27, 2010 5:58 pm

Hi,

I'm tossing up between doing the history component of Little Hearts or Beyond Little Hearts with two of my boys aged nearly 7 and nearly 6. Can anyone tell me if a timeline idea is introduced in Little Hearts? When studying the samples I noticed that Beyond introduced a timeline beginning at 1400 AD during the first week. My boys are really ready for this sort of thing, but I would like to start them off with some world history before doing any American History. Does Little Hearts introduce a timeline? If so, when does this happen in the program? Of course, I could always put one in myself, but HoD has such great ways of introducing and developing so many ideas!

Many thanks,

Annette

"History for Little Pilgrims" introduces the concept of a timeline and has some cute pictures (in the first week, but the timeline pictures are throughout). Students are not directed to make one in the Little Hearts manual. I went ahead and did a basic timeline with my son anyway using pictures.

You're right, it's not written in the LHFHG guide. It's an optional activity that's suggested at the end of ch. 1 in the book - History for Little Pilgrims. I chose to do it with my ds (6yo) this year and he really enjoyed drawing pictures himself (patterned after the ones in the book) to add to the top of our wall through our school year. The timeline, in addition to the stories we read, has given him a great overview of history from Creation - Present & looking ahead to Christ's Return. History was one of his favorite things to do with LHFHG this year!

That's great. I think this program will work for us. It's good to hear how so many children are enjoying Heart of Dakota. I'm really looking forward to using it!
Thanks for the prompt replies.
