LHFHG Bible lessons

I plan to start homeschooling my ds this fall with LHFHG. He is 5 and will be starting kindergarten. My question is about the Bible lessons in LHFHG. We have (and really like) the Jesus Storybook Bible. I want to see if it contains all the Bible stories that we will be studying or if I should buy the one that is recommended. Does anyone have a list of all the Bible stories that are studied using LHFHG? Has anyone used Jesus Storybook Bible with it? Thanks so much!

Hi Tricia and welcome to the HOD Board! We've done LHFHG twice now and thoroughly enjoyed it. "The Family Time Bible" has been a favorite in our household, so much so that the cover has fallen off and I've gotten another one. We also loved "101 Favorite Stories from the Bible" and ended up getting it to use at night for family readings before bedtime. Both of these Bibles match all of the key ideas in the LHFHG guide, as well as contain the parts of the Bible stories that illustrate the Scripture verse being memorized for the week. For example, though many children's story Bibles may have stories about Joseph, they may not have the part of the story about Joseph that these 2 Bibles had, and that match the key idea/Scripture verse memorization. For all of these reasons (not to mention the page numbers for both are already all conveniently planned out in well paced readings in the daily plans for these 2 Bibles), I'd encourage you to get one of the 2 suggested Bibles for LHFHG. Easter is coming up, maybe it could be an Easter gift? We do this in lieu of candy, etc. sometimes if we're on a tighter budget. My dc had another Bible for reading leisurely on their own each morning before the start of school, and they took that Bible to church as well. Perhaps that could be a great use for the other Bible that you already own and love as well! However, only you will know what you want to do here. I just am thinking that a list of stories may not be helpful, because the parts of the story that pertain to the key idea and scripture lesson in LHFHG may not match up with it anyway.

Julie provided you with some good information so, I'll add what I know as well.

I have the (JSB) Jesus Storybook Bible that you are referring to, and while I think it is wonderful, I am not certain that it would be such a good match for the lessons in LHFHG. I also have the (FTBIP) Family-Time Bible In Pictures by K. Taylor (HOD recommended one) and I did a quick comparison of the two for you.
I noticed right away that the JSB has just 44 stories in it, while the FTBIP has 128 stories in it. If I am not mistaken every story in the FTBIP, or nearly every story, is covered in a lesson in the LHFHG manual. So, it seems that you would not always have the related bible story to read along with the lessons in LHFHG if you used the JSB.
I was thinking that if you went ahead and decided to purchase one of the HOD recommended bible storybooks to use with LHFHG, you could use your JSB as reinforcement for what you covered in the recommended one. I think the really neat stylized/storybook writing style and illustrations found in the JSB would add a unique spin to your bible studies.
I am the type of gal that loves story bibles so, any reason to get a new one and I am right on it! We have so many and appreciate each one for different reasons
So, I say if your budget allows, enjoy both!

I am not sure about the Bible storybook you have. We have several, but I chose to buy the Family Time Bible instead (to make it easier on myself). Oh.my.goodness...I am SO glad I did. It ended up being our absolute favorite book in the little hearts package. I would encourage you to buy Family Time Bible if possible. It is so well written, the pictures are wonderful and colorful, and the stories are written much better than in the things we have. Family Time has the stories written for an adult to read, but in a way a child can understand. They are short and simple and just wonderful! I would whole heartedly recommend the Family Time Bible!

I just wanted to affirm that this is true, and the entire book is used.

We just used a standard NKJV Bible we already had and it worked for us.
