Ok, maybe a question of sorts...
I have only posted on here a few times. We have decided to use Bigger with our 7yr old (will be 8 at the end of Aug) and Little Hearts with our 5yr old (will be 5.5yr old in Aug). We also have a 2 yr old (will be 3 in June) and I am almost 9wks pregnant, due in September. I am really sick right now (morning sickness). We haven't done much of any school...at all. I haven't even been able to really read to them. It has been horrible...not only for me but my entire family. I can't stand up for more than 5min and...well, I can "and" all night. I was thinking that we would start in Aug but I am due at the end of Sept. I don't know when school would get started after the baby is born. So I was wondering if it would be wise to scrap what I have had planned to do (which isn't much of anything) and start this as soon as I get well again? I just feel so terrible not being able to really do much. I would still use the math she is doing now until she is done and then get Singapore. What do you ladies think?

I would ride the feel good days with as substantial school as I could. And then do LA and Math only on the yuck days. So morning sickness should go a way after a while, I might hop on it then and then maybe take a break right after the baby is born so you can recover and get used to sleep deprivation again.
Congratulations! At least you know you have a good strong pregnancy going there.

Don't have any advice....just sympathy! I, too, was one of those sick all day and all night moms. I would start in as soon as I woke up and sometimes I would wake up in the middle of the night sick. I feel so sorry for you! I will pray for this to pass for you quickly. Do you do school year round?? You could get some time in this summer if you feel up to it?

I'm new to homeschooling, but have been around many homeschoolers for many years. When they get overloaded they just focus on LA and Math like water2wine suggested and do what they can until they get through it.
I'm sure that doesn't help much. Sending you my sympathy, though. I know what you are going through. Had sickness with last three kids for much of each pregnacy. I'll be praying for you.

I know all too well
about pregnancies. All of my pregnancies have been hard. I have had headaches, morning sickness, heartburns, pains from back, neck, legs...
itchiness, etc....
I would get done in Math and LA what I could and double up on the other subjects if I feel good that day. That way if it takes longer it won't matter and you won't feel pressured to rush.

Peridot,
Congratulations on upcoming baby!
I am sorry you are having to feel yucky! I don't really have any advice except to remember that this is just a season in your life. Just do what you can manage and take care of yourself. Maybe you could cuddle on the bed together and watch some educational DVD's or listen to some audio books. I know, not much help, I'll pray that your morning sickness eases!

peridot,
Congratulations on the upcoming baby! I know what it is like to feel sick all day and night and empathize with you. All of my pregnancies were that way, with the exception of my miscarriages, so like the ladies said, at least you have a healthy pregnancy going on! The ladies have given you wonderful encouragement and advice. We'll pray that the sickness will pass!
As to your questions about whether to start HOD now or wait, it might not be a bad idea to start only your oldest in "Bigger..." just to get your feet wet and get used to the feel of doing a HOD program. The oldest ones are usually the ones we feel most guilty about not getting schooling done with, so this approach would help with some of that guilt. Your 5 year old could easily wait to start LHFHG until after the baby has settled in and you are getting back on your feet a little.
If you did get "Bigger..." you could just start on the days you felt reasonably well. On the days that are yucky, you could opt for educational videos and audio books, board games, and educational computer CD's. Or you could try to just get in math and language arts on the tough days!
Blessings,
Carrie

My heart goes out to you! I feel your pain... I really do! My last pregnancy (actually pretty much all of my pregnancies), have been spent on the couch on total bedrest for large portions of the pregnancy. Just last year I was in the same boat that you are! I was already doing Beyond Little Hearts for His Glory, Little Hearts for His Glory, and DITHOR at the time. What I did that worked for me is pile all the books in order with whatever copies I needed with them across the counter. I did this during the 10 minutes out of every hour I could be up (and of course my contractions always got going then ) .
Then I had the children bring me one pile at a time, while I was lying on the couch. We took off the back couch cushions, and they lay next to me for all of the reading selections. They did the written work at the coffee table next to me. Then, they'd go get the next pile. I cut any extras out, and I did not venture down any "bunny trails".
Other things that we did to help... The children each did a computer educational game 30 minutes, I bought books on tape for them to listen to, they had ample play time, often took long bubble baths during the day, and I did let them watch Bob the Builder every day. They also had quiet time for 45 minutes in their rooms, which my oldest ds grew to totally love, and, "creative time" at the kitchen table where they just delved into their art supplies and created. My dh also sometimes made me a lunch plate before he left for work. (This was scary at times - I was reminded why I am the cook in the house - but it was a very kind gesture and often was the only thing I ate until supper since I couldn't be up).
I really was able to stay on track with homeschool for the most part this way, other than when I was hospitalized or when our baby was born and I had to stay in Intensive Care. When summer hit, I decided not to finish the last 4 weeks of Beyond (I don't like to do this, but it was the best choice at the time), and I began with Bigger in August. I also was doing LHFHG half-speed, and began where I'd left off in August with that. With DITHOR, I got 5 of the genres done, and this year I'm doing the other 4 genres plus repeating 2 of them from last year.
You need to do what you can to maintain your health and the baby's health first and foremost. But, maybe some of these suggestions can help you continue on with what you can in school. Even doing just half of the plans each day would get you further than none. Just do what you can hon', and hang in there! This too shall pass... Praying God's strength and loving-kindness your way!
In Christ,
Julie
