Preparing Hearts Time Line

Post by butterfly113 » Sat Jul 11, 2009 8:05 am

I'm sure this has been asked, and I want to make sure I understand this correctly....

In the manual it says the students will need 32 cards cut in half.... so a total of 64 cards, right? And if we want to do a different size or format, that is ok???

Thanks!

I think you have it right...
I am thinking of using the full card and securing a heavy string across the wall in our school room.
I am not sure how to secure the string without making a big mark on the wall...
I think I would use plastic clothes pins or some sort of paper clip to hang them from the string.
Don't know if it will work, or not.

I believe you can make your timeline anyway you want to. My daughter is going to start Preparing soon and I am making a timeline using cardstock. This way I can fold it up and put it in a file in my TM box. In a few months we will be schooling out of a box in a camper and or hotel.

:D In PHFHG, suggestions for the timeline are the staircase or accordian-style. My ds loved doing his timeline last year, and enjoyed watching it grow (in fact it may permanently be up on our closet door)! :D

Here are some pictures of my ds's and also my nephew's staircase timelines last year in PHFHG:

That is so helpful. Thank you. I am going to go with the accordion-style. This board is great.

My 8 y.o. is using a full regular-sized index card and we're doing it accordion style. My older 2 are adding more people and events and using another timeline book that we had started 2 years ago. Personally, I think my 8 y.o. is getting more out of his timeline than my older 2 because he has to create the figure - not just color it in and paste it on. Loving Preparing!

I'm with you on this thought, juliekay! :D I've found that the act of drawing and labeling the timeline information helps my ds retain it better. The thinking that goes behind choosing how to draw an event, the coloring of it, and the writing of the label makes much more of an impact on him than just sticking a sticker on a timeline that someone else made. :) While the sticker may be prettier sometimes, it just doesn't require as much thought. Plus, I've grown to like that each of my dc's timelines look different from one another's - it makes it their own. I am in complete agreement! :D
