Hi Ladies!
When you use Beyond as a 4 day schedule, how do you schedule the spelling? Do you do one spelling list Monday - Thursday and then start a new list next Monday? Or do you try to do the spelling as listed? With the second option, if that's what you use, doesn't it get confusing to hold lists over to the next week and start new lists in the middle of the week?
Thanks,
Crystal

Re: Beyond as a 4 day schedule
Hi Crystal,
We will be doing Beyond this year as well, going half pace at first on some subjects and then move into 4 days a week. As, for the spelling, I plan on making it Monday through Thursday, regardless of days and units. I will put a sticky tab in the book, to show where we are. That way, regardless of where we are in the book, we are running smoothly through Spelling, and I and the kids won't get confused and carry over a unit into another week.
I would be curious to know what others are doing too.

Re: Beyond as a 4 day schedule
We don't do a strict 4 day schedule, I just do school most days that dh is at work (he works 6 days a week) but sometimes we only get 4 days in, some we get all 6, just depending on what else is going on. Anyway, my point is that we rarely do Day 1 on Monday and Day 5 on Friday, and we just do spelling when it comes up in the guide. I haven't had a problem with having a weekend break between the days. I figure if she knows the words, she should know the words, even with a break. Actually, even though she's young, she hasn't had any problem learning the level 1 spelling words.
Momma to my 4 sweeties:

DS 11 and DD 9 - Preparing(completed 2 rounds of LHTH, LHFHG, Beyond, and Bigger)
DD 6 - LHFHG

Re: Beyond as a 4 day schedule
We are doing Beyond 4 days a week. We take Fridays off since that's the day our play group meets. I do day 4 & 5 work on Thursday. The readings are easy enough to add a few pages. My son does do Math on Friday but it's Teaching Textbooks, so I only help him out if he gets stuck...he also does math on Sat...by his choice. The Spelling is only scheduled on days 1-4. The 5th day is is Grammar. We just add the Grammar to Thursday after doing Spelling. We haven't had any trouble combining days 4 & 5.

Re: Beyond as a 4 day schedule
I work on Thursdays and was concerned about leaving off and starting back up and whether that would be confusing. Honestly, it never was an issue for us. The weeks went very smoothly. I thought it would be a huge problem, but it turned out to be a non-issue. We leave off on Wednesday, pick it back up on Friday, leave off for the weekend, and then pick back up on Monday. It went as smooth as silk.

Re: Beyond as a 4 day schedule
My plan is to do the Learning through History 4 days a week, while doing Learning the Basics 5 days a week. By doing that and adding in few unit studies or holiday studies I'll be able to stretch Beyond and Bigger over 3 years and go through 3 years of the 3 R's. My dd is actually just shy of the youngest age for Beyond and I want her to be more in the middle of the age range for the Preparing guide,so by stretching the guides out over 3 years it will give us greater flexibilty with school and she will have more time to grow up and have fun before we get into more rigorous studies.
