after all my math ?'s, we're trying SM 3A/3B....

Post by Tabitha » Fri Jun 12, 2009 11:53 am

Just thought I'd post an update....

We just got in dd's SM books this week. For the summer, we're gonna breeze through the 3A/3B books. Dd will be giong into 5th/PHFHG in the fall. We've been using Saxon 5/4, and dd did fine for quite a while but then started having some processing issues of her own. Saxon, even with DIVE, was either too much or just not the right learning method for her.

I'm not sure if we'll go into SM 4A/4B for the upcoming school year, or do TT5. That is debatable. I atleast wanted to have her work with the level 3 books to get a feel for the program and have something on the easy side for her to work on while getting use to the different approach SM takes.

She was already wahoo-ing as she read and sailed through the first 4 lessons. Something she can tackle a bit on her own (which is nice).

I didn't get the HIG, but think I will for the levels beyond this. I like the back-up of having them if I get stuck.

Thx to all who posted before helping me mull over our math woes.

Hi Tabitha! I'm so glad you got 3A/3B, and that your dd is enjoying it. :D You'll have to check the pacing to make sure she doesn't rush to the hard stuff too quickly - it's coming, you know. I liked HOD's suggestion of doing the Textbook part with our dc as our teaching time (and I was glad to do this instead of trying to do the HIG :D ). My ds liked this short time together in the textbook before doing his workbook on his own. Sometimes he didn't think he needed me for the textbook part, but more often than not, I'd wished I'd done it with him later down the road if he struggled. Just thought I'd share something I learned the hard way in the hopes it would help someone else! :D Enjoy Singapore, it's a great program!

In Christ,
Julie
