I think I finally thought of a do-able plan!!!!

Post by sharonb » Tue Apr 14, 2009 7:30 am

Even once I said I wasn't going to be able to use HOD for financial reasons, I'm still feeling drawn to it. Especially once my 5 year old told me that he doesn't like school because it isn't fun... :( So, here's my latest idea of how to make this work (in case any of you are following my many threads, LOL!):

Put my 7-year-old (starting 2nd grade) dd and my 5.75-year-old (starting 1st grade) ds in Beyond as soon as I can get it. ds is starting singapore 1A right now anyway, and has started phonics instruction. dd is in R&S 2nd grade math but I'm considering switching her to singapore too.

Then, when my 4 year old turns 5 (in Dec), start LHFHG with him. We'll go half-speed for a while if we need to. So far all indications are that his attention span and desire to learn are higher than his big brother's, so I do think he will do great with this plan.

As for the 2 year old, I'm going to try to devote some special time to him each day where we read books and play. I am bidding on a LHTH set on ebay that I could use for the 2/4 year olds now, but if I don't win it, I'm going to need to wait on that.

I'm so excited that I found a way to spread it out. If I can sell a few things I'm not using here, then getting the Beyond set is very do-able. :D

Just wanted to share.

ETA: In case anyone is wondering why my ds isn't even 6 yet and we're about to start 1st grade, it's because he has an August birthday, so according to the school system he's finishing up K. We school year-round, so we aren't waiting till Aug/Sept to start the new stuff. I think he will be fine with this but we can take it slower at first if we need to.

Sounds like a doable plan! I hope you are able to find a way to swing it financially.

Hi Sharon,

I am new to the board, but I just wanted to congratulate you on finding a doable plan for you and your family!

I too have to make considerations based on finances, but the more I pray about this and the more I look at the catalog and visit the wonderful ladies on this board, the more God just keeps affirming to me that HOD is the right choice for us for next year. Now I just have to make a final decision about placement and sell a bunch of curriculum.

I will be praying that God gives you peace about your plan for your kiddos, if this is His leading, He will make it work for your family! :D

Blessings,
Shelly

I figure if God wants me to do this, then the books I have listed for sale will sell. Here's where my patience gets tested....
