Newbie here!!! Placement question

Post by 4under5mommy » Mon May 01, 2017 1:54 pm

Hi! I'm am hoping someone there can help direct me. I have four kids who will be 9, 11, 12, 14 next school year. Their grades will be 3rd, 5th, 6th, and 8th. Here's a little bit about each kid: 3rd grader reads on grade level, and has dysgraphia (making the physical aspect of writing challenging). 5th grader is probably a little ahead in reading and LOVES to read. 6th grader is a reluctant reader, but is a very motivated learner. She reads on or above grade level. 8th grader is an advanced reader and has ADHD. I'm wondering what programs would be good matches for them? I don't think it would be appropriate for them all to do the same program. I'd love to delve into World History. Last year (this current year) we've studied eastern cultures with Sonlight. The year before we studied US history with Sonlight. I'm attracted to what I see in your program, especially the ability to adapt the reading for older students, the ability to use the notebooking pages to help retain information, and the spine book that accompanies all the reading. Do you have suggestions on what might work and how a day would look if I did more than one core? Thank YOU for your time!!

Have you checked the placement chart (http://www.heartofdakota.com/placing-your-child.php) and circled the boxes for each child? I would use a color per child ands ee where they place. With the exception of the youngest one, you will want to place them in the lowest guide they have circles in, unless it is only one circle that is really out of place (in something like grammar or math that could be customized easily). With the youngest and a learning diability, you will probably find you have to modify regardless of what level you pick for him. So, I would ignore the physical writing on placement, and then place him where he fits with everything else.
