Some quick questions about the Nature Journal in MTMM

So we bought our hardback journals and the black drawing pens from Miller Pads and Paper at the homeschool convention back in April. My kiddos have started their journals and everything is lovely except the black pens are bleeding through the pages some. Did anyone else have this issue? They have talked about skipping every other page but I don't think that is a good idea. Different pens? Suggestions?? Different journal? I don't like that option as well as they are finishing up Unit 3 tomorrow but will do what you all think. Did anyone else have this problem?

Also do you know the "official" time the journal was suppose to take when scheduled? I read in one place 20-30 min and in another place I read 40 min. That is a big difference. Thanks for any help.
