Little Hands to Heaven double-time?
Hello ladies,
I am wondering if anyone out there has used Little Hands to Heaven double time? My son is finishing up pre-k at a private school here in town and we plan to homeschool for Kindergarten in the fall. He is learning to read at home (using The Reading Lesson), he has strong academics, but his fine motor skills are a bit lagging. I know that he already knows most of what is covered in LHTH, but he really needs extra practice with fine motor stuff, so I was thinking about purchasing the program to use with him and his younger brother over the summer before beginning LHFHG in the fall. Of course, I'm a weirdo who dislikes not doing something all the way, so I'm trying to figure out how I'm going to get the whole guide finished before beginning LHFHG. I was just curious if anyone has done LHTH double-time, and what are your thoughts on that?
Thanks!
Sarah

Honestly, I'd say that if he fits the age range for LHFHG and CAN go double time (or faster) in LHTH, then he's probably ready for LHFHG.
The only reason I'd hold off a child who can do LHTH double speed is if they are quite young. Like, early 4 or younger.
However, maybe you could get the fine motor skills books and have him work through those before starting LHFHG

We haven't done LHTH here but I do have a 5 yr who has major fine motor skill issues and he has done well with LHFHG this year. I would suggest just working with yours sons fine motor skills over the summer and starting LHFHG in the fall. Just my 2 cents.

I can say the same thing about fine motor issues with my 6-year-old, and he's doing well with LHFHG. It is nice that you move back and forth between handwriting and either the Rod and Staff workbooks or Thinking Skills book, so you are on handwriting one day and the other books the next. It made me slow down with him and it took some pressure off.

Thanks for your input and advice, it is a relief to hear that kiddos whose fine motor skills are a bit lagging still do quite well in LHFHG! I guess I could just work with him on fine motor stuff over the summer. The only reason I was thinking of doing LHTH is because he is far more apt to enjoy cutting, coloring, writing, drawing, etc. if he sees that there is a point. So when it is in the context of a unit study, he sees the point, and he does better with that.

Hi! Just a few thoughts.
Even though you could work on fm skills alone over the summer, since you mentioned a younger brother it might be worth it to buy LHTH.
Several scenarios come to mind by using it that way.
1) double-time like you mentioned, which usually is easily done. 2) Just do it over the summer, then have older child start LHFHG, and younger continue in LHTH.
I plan to continue my LHTH (w/ my dd4) over the summer and have my two sons listen in as a devotional for them. They enjoy doing the activities as well -
even my 8yo. Some days we do double because my dd is ready for it. Other days we only do one.
If it was just the older one I would say don't bother, but it depends on what you want for your younger one, and what you can afford.
Whatever you decide is best for your family. The age of your younger son plays a part in this decision as well.

My younger son is 22 months old... He's a little young yet, but I know he would enjoy it anyway.
