Spelling Rules, Again

Post by glperky » Sat Feb 09, 2013 3:02 pm

OK, ladies I am sorry I am struggling here. I know many have told me that through the spelling list and dictation, that your children learn how to spell. I talked to my DH about it last night and he feels that learning the rules are important so that when they get to harder words they will be able to read and/or spell them. Are learning all the rules not important? Can you tell me why they don't learn the rules with HOD so that I can try to explain it to my DH? Thanks for trying to explain and help me out.

I have no idea about the answer to your question... but I can say that doing spelling the HOD way, along with the fact that I do not do phonics, my three older kids can figure out words they don't know when they read just as well as I've heard anyone do it.
