Rod & Staff 7

Post by 4Hispraise » Tue Sep 11, 2012 7:15 pm

We are currently completing Rev to Rev. with Rod & Staff 7 & enjoying it. I am wondering if any have used R&S 7, how? My ds is totally capable - not struggling at all, but it is so time consuming for me/us. If we just do this every other day, will he have enough grammar this year? Also, do you use EVERY activity? We have been completing all review exercises in the teacher's manual, class activities (orally) and all written exercises in a day. Grammar takes us the longest every day. Should we just be doing class activities one day and the written activities the next day? But, then we would only be completing half of the book this year? Thanks for any help or suggestions. :D

What grade is your ds? I'm guessing he must be older and you've already completed a lot of grammar. Here is a quote off the Rev2Rev product page:
Note: 8th – 9th grade students who have had significant grammar instruction, through completing English 6 or its equivalent, may choose to use English 7 instead. This text is not scheduled within the Revival to Revolution Teacher’s Guide, but lessons are divided into days within the Rod and Staff text for ease of use. We recommend completing half of English 7 this year and the other half the following year. The scope and sequence of this text is worthy of high school credit.
So it sounds like you should be doing it half-speed this year. We still have a long ways until we get there, but I thought this quote might help.

Yes, my ds is in 8th grade. He has completed so much grammar that I knew he was ready for it.

Thank you for pointing me to the Rev to Rev product page reminder. When I purchased R&S 7 I knew that, but somehow...I forgot it. This is going to make my ds so happy. :D :D And, this mama too. :D :D

Carrie also recommends doing 2/3 of Rod and Staff orally. That will also help you day go faster.
