My boys have always loved building things. I have found notebooks with pages of "plans" for things my oldest was going to build, from the time he could barely write. Neither of them like math, though, , and they've never cared much about science. When I saw Rev to Rev's science, I was pretty sure they would like it, so I went ahead and put them both in it together this year, which has been great in so many ways. My youngest now says science is his favorite subject. I've loved watching them work together on the projects.
They have a short break after lunch, and I just found my oldest rounding up as many books as he could find on science and physics. (I have a pretty decent library of books I've collected over the years, which includes some Usborne, The Way Things Work, etc. The boys have never shown much interest in most of these resources, and I've even been considering selling some of them to pay for curriculum.--not now!) I just walked into his room, and he has all these books spread out on his bed, with a couple of them open to different pages, and a notebook, of course, with some notes jotted down. He's says he's going to figure out how to build a six-wheeler!!!?? I can't wait to sneak a peek at his plans later. Anyhow, I'm pretty sure this has all come about from reading and learning some about physics from his science, and performing some of the experiments.
My only problem now is pulling him away from this great independent learning, to get back to "math"--ugghhh!, and our other schoolwork that needs to be finished up. Maybe just a few more minutes.......
Thank you, Carrie, for finding this awesome science curriculum for us!

Re: Loving Rev to Rev's Science!!!
My ds did something similar this week. We have Discovery Education Streaming and usually I assign some videos for him to watch that go along with what he is studying. He told me on Wed that he had already watched some videos on the Ipad that morning. I was surprised and he said yes he wanted to know more about force, so he was looking up and watching every video he could find on types of forces.
