Happy Handwriting? (Cheerful Cursive)

We've been a Handwriting Without Tears family from the beginning of our homeschooling journey, but the transition from HWT's paper to regular notebook paper has been difficult for my boys. (I've ended up making my own version of loose-leaf paper in Word and printing it out for them.)

After reading such great reviews here, I'm excited to try Cheerful Cursive with my oldest next year! Looking into their program I see they have a manuscript curriculum as well--Happy Handwriting. Have any HOD families used it? I'm thinking of switching my DS2 to it, but thought there might be a reason why it isn't on the HOD recommendation list.

We are a family that LOVED using Cheerful Cursive with our sons! Their cursive is neat and legible - not perfect all the time, but I'm thrilled with the results of just one year of cursive with Cheerful Cursive. HOD picked A Reason for Handwriting and Italic A as their favorite options for handwriting. Carrie had this to say about handwriting in a previous thread...
...We looked at Happy Handwriting for LHFHG and did like the looks of it. However, overall we liked "A Reason for Handwriting" better, with the goal of copying Bible verses at the end of each week...

We did A Reason for HW with both of our sons, and they transitioned into Cheerful Cursive beautifully. HTH!

I agree that Cheerful Cursive is a wonderful program, and my oldest 2 are doing well with it. I don't think you'll have a problem transitioning to it from HWOT.

I'll chime in to mention that I decided to use Happy Handwriting with my 5 year old this past year. I was very pleased with it, and my daughter really enjoyed the little characters that help her remember how to form the letters. So for us it worked very well. A Reason for Handwriting is very good too, though!
