Writing in High School

Hello all,
Since we are a little ahead of the HOD curve with a rising Sophomore I've been thinking a lot about High School writing and what we should be striving for in instruction and ability. If Carrie happens to log-on and see this I would really like to hear move about what she envisions for high school writing, not necessarily curriculum but scope and sequence. In the meantime, those of you who are pondering this what is your plan?
