Igniting Your Writing

Post by mamanlait » Sun Nov 27, 2011 7:48 pm

Ladies,
Have any of you used the "optional program" Igniting Your Writing in place of the scheduled Write with the Best in CtC (or for a 5th grader)? We have used WWTB for 16 weeks and dd is fairly frustrated with the parts of speech exercises that each unit has. I think it's a fantastic program but my dd seems a bit inexperienced with knowing the difference between adjectives and adverbs when they are difficult ones (and I'm spending a LOT of time trying to figure them out as well). My grammar education in PS was NOT solid. :? I'm hoping the Igniting writing program might be less stressful on the two of us.
Currently:
dd 16 AH1 -bits & pieces (previously used Bigger, Preparing, CtC, RtR, Rev, MMtM, WG, WH)
dd 12 REV (previously used LHTH, LHfHG, Beyond, Bigger, Preparing, CtC, & RtR)

Does viewtopic.php?f=6&t=7177 help? I think it addresses your specific concern. :D

Katrina,
Thank you so much for digging that up for me. I never seem to find what I need to when I do a search.
The link was exactly what I was needing!

Ah....where do those posts go when you hit "submit" and it pops back to an empty screen? GRRR

Anyway, to now make it short, we've had the same issues. Even "I" was surprised of all that was supposed to be found! DD and I both are a little frustrated, but I like the program even though we're lousy at it. So I'll help her out and find a few and call it good!

Thanks for the links to the WWTB, although I apologize I was no help to the OP.

You are welcome! Do you know how to Bookmark threads you'd like to keep? That is my "secret" and it's really no secret at all! There are so many Thread Gems on this message board and there is no other way to keep connected to them without the Bookmarks. :D

That activity is such a small part of the program that I wouldn't let it turn you away from WWTB. Like the other thread states, just have you dc find a limited amount of each one and call it good. It really is a fantastic program. My ds really grew in his writing skills with using this program. We used Igniting Your Writing the year before when we did Preparing since we weren't using Rod and Staff then and while it is a good program it doesn't have the depth that WWTB does. I just think WWTB takes it to the next level and then that IEW scheduled in RTR takes it the next step. They really build on each other even though they are totally different programs.
