Would The reading lesson be good for an almost 3rd grader that is a slow reader and reading at late 1st grade level. I am trying to find something to get her up to a 3rd grade level by next fall. Does anyone have any suggestions.
thanks,
Krista

This is my struggle also. I have a 10 1/2 year old reading mid to late 1st grade. We have found The Reading Lesson and the Emerging readers to really be a great combo. One thing I have found though is that the reading is getting better but she really could not compose a very simple sentence and she had some odd ideas about letter sounds. So we are doing now a written component that I just started but I think will really help. I am just using the phonogram rules and creating silly sentences that I dictate to her, we then correct the mistakes and talk about the misconceptions she has, then she copies the sentences and studies them on a flash card she makes and we test by dictation then next day. Any words she does not know she writes ten times and they go into the next days silly sentences. Then I am going to test all the missed words and some of the sentences in a week. Disclaimer is I am not expert and my dd has cerebral palsy she needs tons of repetition. But I think for any child learning to write the words they are learning to spell really helps. The Reading Lesson I think is excellent for a delayed reader as well as a quick reader. It's an awesome program.

All your children shall be taught by the LORD, and great shall be the peace of your children. Isaiah 54:13
