Hi Jessie!
Regarding planning, I don't actually plan (just do the next day in the guide), but I do keep a record of what we do on each day. I created a table in Word to print out each week ("__/___/11" filled in across the top row so I can enter the dates, and subjects down the left side). For each subject I have "LHFHG Unit___ Day___" filled in going across the row. I just write in the Unit number and day after we complete each subject. I have other materials we are using and I keep track of things like observing the weather, saying the pledge, etc., so this is one place where I can log it all in together.
I do look ahead every so often and highlight in the guide any materials I will need that I don't have around the house. I will say that with LHFHG, there have been very few materials I didn't already have. I stocked up on basic craft supplies at the beginning of the year and that really helped. HTH!
