Why should I use HOD over KONOS, MFW, TOG?

This is where new posts begin. All questions or discussions about any of Heart of Dakota's curriculums start here. If you wish to share a one-time post about your family's experience with our curriculum, you may post under the specific curriculum title (found beneath this "Main Board" heading).

Hi Terri,

Welcome, I am new also and not an "official" HOD user YET, but am planning to be in the next month or so! :) I have 5 children also......9.5, 8, 6, 4.5 &
7 mos!

The big thing that sold me on HOD LHFHG compared to MFW is that I can combine my K & 1st (where as mentioned before MFW encourages separating the 2), the cost is affordable on a tight budget and the TM is open and go...which I need. :)

Well I cannot say anything about the others except I did see MFW because my friend will be using it for her K/1st grader but I know it just isn't for us.I can tell you about Little Hands and the manual for the rest since I have them. I am currently using Little Hands, and tesint with Beyond (I also have the other two guides). I like how it's all in one manual and I can check it off that way instead of the way I do it now. I have a spreadsheet with each book and pages and dates and all crazy stuff and don't like it. I can supplement with other stuff, which I am doing now but next year I will be using what the guide recommends. It's bible base but not much Bible. It's hard to explain but we just like how it's laid out in the guides.
My 8 year old helps with the preschoolers. She will play school with them. She gets out the flashcards and she will do the rhymes with them while I am off doing something. We currenlty do the bible part out of LIttle Hands together and then later in the day I work with them one on one with their other bible study(Sunay school and Awana stuff). The acting out of the stories has helped my oldest remember the stories and she really enjoys that part of schooling.
I also like that I can get some of the books from the library instead of buying them. Right now I am trying out Beyond and gotten some of the books from the library. When the time comes to start Bigger, I will buy all the books because I will have them whenever I need them.
I have other books and of course have gone to their forums and I have found this forum to be easy to use. It's not so busy I get lost in conversations (yahoo groups). Some of the forums are hard to navigate and if it's not simple I don't go digging, mainly because I dont' feel like digging. I also like how Carrie comes in and answers every question that is posted.

I bought Konos obedience before I bought Heart of Dakota Bigger. I tried and tried to understand Konos, but it didn't make sense to me, didn't flow. Things just kinda jump all over the place on Konos. ANd the activities-- not as easy as they make it seem (at least to me)-- alot of prep work for everything.

I joined a yahoogroup for Konos, but they told me I had to join some online co-op and pay $30 a month. I dont have $30 a month to spare. They put me on a giant guilt trip, telling me that if I TRULY cared about the education of my child, I'd make it happen.

Well, I ran fast away from Konos.

When I checked into HOD, I started asking questions, and guess what? THe answers were FREE! I didn't have to pay to get answers! And going through the program, it does make sense and flow (to me at least).

I can pick up and go with HOD. I dont have any prep work. ANd when we're in the hospital with my other son for his treatments, we can bring it with us and homeschool anywhere. It's that easy to use.

I have checked the other one's but havent personally tried them out, so I cant say too much about them.

Good luck!
