MommyInTraining wrote:Would you mind explaining to me a little more how you plan on matching it up with LHTH? You mentioned choosing one book per week to go along with the letter of the week in LHTH. But, you have more than one book listed under certain letters. Could you please share a little more about how you are going to fit the story/activity/craft/snack into your schedule?
I would love to know this too! If you don't mind. :)

No problem. The list is just my list of suggested books since Jen was asking what to add to LHTH....I'm only going to choose one book per week. For example, 10 apples up on top for the first week. We'll read the same story every day for our 4 day school schedule, and then I'll choose 4 different activities....make a snack, a craft, math activity, etc. and do one activity each day. If you do a search online, you can find a ton of great activities. I see that you both PM'ed me, so I'll email you the links to some of the places I've been finding good stuff at.

Also the Obadiah books published by Beautiful Feet Books are completely adorable, if you have them you could use them for "O"... :)

They might be a little over the heads of the littlest ones though... I'll keep searching through my books.

I was also looking at books to do for Read-A-Loud for my 4 year old while doing LHTH. He loves to be read to. I got rid of my FIAR. I have the Uncle Arthur's Bedtime Stories. My set came with 5 books. It's a classic set that goes for $199. I found it at Library and education for $69.95. My children enjoy the stories very much! In reading the story of George Washington Carver my ds of 6 decided to call his school work area "God's Little Workshop".

I am now looking into getting the James Herriot's Treasury for children. They have the 1992 and the 2005 on Amazon so I need to figure out what the difference is. If anyone can help that would be great.

Noticing that libraryanded dot com has both the classic set and the revised edition... same price. Which is better to get? I am not familiar with either.

I am adding storytime with my five and three year old, too. We do LHTH in the morning after breakfast. After lunch, we read aloud on the couch.
I added
I Spy an Alphabet in Art (I introduce the picture in the morning sometime during the week during our LHTH time)
The Alphabet Room (this is a lift the flap alphabet book) I also introduce this in the morning sometime during the week of the new letter. We review the prior letters and "stop" at the one we are learning that week.

After lunch, I chose literature based on the letter sound of classic children's favorites that we have adored in our house over the years. I made a list on paper- however, I have been pondering actually setting them aside and putting them in file folders or on a special shelf- to make it easier and "more special".

I usually read aloud at least two of those books on the couch after lunch. I reread these books thru the week. Especially ones that seem to "connect" with the children in a special way. I think I have about five or so books listed for each letter. (this is an estimate- maybe not so many for letters x and z!)

Anyway- this is really giving us a rich experience- along with the wonderful Christ-centered focus of LHTH.

Blessings,
Rebecca

I thought of the same thing about adding storytime to Little Hands so I picked out a bunch of books from the Sonlight P3/4 list. Now, I hadn't thought of matching up stories to each letter....hmmm....that's got me thinking, lol! :)

I love classic books, with the original language, so I am partial to the classic set especially since they are the same price!

Here are some books we have really enjoyed added in with LHTH so far.

A:

An Extraordinary Egg by Leo Lionni
I Can't Said the Ant

B:

Cowgirl Rosie and her five baby bison by Stephen Gulbis
The sun, the moon, and the silver baboon by Susan Field
The buffalo in the mall by Molly Levite Griffis - Wonderful pencil sketch illustrations! I could study them for some time. Story reminded me of I Know a Rhino.

C:

The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle
The Very Quiet Cricket by Eric Carle - The sound was a great surprise to the girls. We've read it over and over.
Clip-Clop by Nicola Smee - board book
2016-2017
dd1 - ResToRef
dd2 - Preparing
dd3 - Beyond
dd4 - LHTH
