Julie-
Nope, a baby gate will NOT stop my 2.5 year old. He is the ONLY one of my children who ever climbed out of the crib. We had to move him into a toddler bed early because we were scared he would hurt himself. So, then we put a baby gate in the doorway, and that didn't stop him either. Hopefully this doesn't make us sound like bad parents, like we can't control him or something. He's just extra challenging for us compared to the others! But like I said, if he's in the playroom doing something he enjoys, he'll be fine if I need a few minutes alone with dd.

You do not sound like bad parents.I think you have figured out a soloution to the reading- but wanted to say that reading is the toughest subject in our house too.Everything else the little one can either join in or be accomodated with sticker books or colouring activity.
