When I read storytime books I allow my two younger ones to play quietly nearby (legos, etc.) or find a coloring/activity book that can relate.
(Such as an animal book if it's about animals).
My older dc and I sit on one of our basement couches, with them just out of his sight. That contributes to more peace in our home.
If he doesn't see them he is less distracted, and if they don't see him readily they are quieter.
Neither one can sit still for very long. I also allow them to quietly 'act out' the story.
This is what we do. Hope you can get some good ideas.
